How to Check-In on Your Health

Ways To Check-In Your Health

A lot of people believe that their health is their wealth. They say this because many people do not know how important their health is until a certain part of their body gets damaged. This is the point when these people realize that they did not take their health seriously. Yet, you can keep an eye on your health by yourself. If you feel that something is wrong with you, you should visit a hospital or clinic. But otherwise, there are certain things you can do by staying at your home. These are:

Check Your Temperature

The best way to check your health is to take your temperature generally. All you need is a digital thermometer. You can get this digital thermometer from any pharmacy or medical store. Place the thermometer under your tongue for a few minutes, take it out when it beeps to get a reading. This way, you can check how much your body is working. If the temperature is high, the body will be using more energy.

Temperature can increase due to a variety of factors. These factors can include illness or an intense session of exercise. The average temperature is 98.6. If the temperature is low or higher than this, it can be problematic. If you do not want to put a thermometer in your mouth, there are thermometers for ears as well. Apart from this, digital forehead scanners are available as well. No matter which method you choose, make sure that you buy a good thermometer.

Blood Pressure

These days checking the blood pressure at home has become easier. Although a lot of people are not aware of this, and a lot of people do not recognize how crucial this metric of body function is. But, if a person has high blood pressure, one can easily suffer from heart disease. This can happen due to the eating of salty foods, smoking, or drinking. Apart from this, high blood pressure can also depend on other internal factors, such as age, race, family history, and the amount of exercise.

High blood pressure can lead to various other heart problems aside from heart diseases. High blood pressure can cause strokes, heart attacks, heart failure, and it can affect your brain’s health. The best way to check your blood pressure is through a blood pressure cuff. You can buy an electronic one. Although they are a bit expensive, they can be helpful in various ways. You should know that healthy blood pressure reading is around 120/180.

Checking Your Pulse

Anyone can check the pulse. Checking the pulse or heart rate is a simple test that you can do without any special equipment. People have been doing this for centuries. You should check the resting heart rate. If the resting heart rate has a higher average, you are at risk for heart disease. Heart diseases are among the leading causes of death in the US.

So, how can you check your pulse? Checking the pulse is simple. You just have to take your index and middle finger and place them on your neck by Adam’s apple. After this, you should count your beat for 60 seconds. This way, you can easily discover your resting heart rate. If we look at the average pulse, then it is between 70-100 beats per minute. If your beat is lower than this, then you are in good shape. If the beat is higher than this, it means you are in bad shape.

How can you check your own pulse?

With the increase of time, technology has developed a lot. These days you can use your cell phone to get a quick read of your pulse. Certain mobiles such as galaxy phones and I phones come with a built-in heartbeat sensor that can monitor stress levels.

How to Measure Your Waist

You can easily measure your waist through a tape measure. You can also check it through the size of your pants. The size of your waist correlates with your weight. To measure the waist with a tape, you just have to take the end of the tape measure and bring it around your waist. Tighten it, and you will be able to measure the circumference of the waist. A healthy person will have a waist smaller than 40 inches.

Check for Lumps

Checking for Lumps is essential, and you should do it regularly. If you are a woman, you should regularly check your breasts for any lumps. It would be best if you did this in front of a mirror because this way you can get a better view. You can do this in one simple way. Start from the armpits to the nipples and check for any bruises, lumps, or discoloration. You can do this in just five minutes. But, this does not mean that it is not necessary. One logic for doing this is to catch a problem before it deteriorates. If you are a man, you should similarly examine your testicles. Feel around the sack and put a little pressure on the testes to check anything unusual. It may feel a bit awkward, but trust me, it is far better to be sade instead of worrying about such a problem.

How Skin Plays into Health

The sun is something that everyone comes into contact with every single day. It may seem good, but this is not always a good thing. The warm and comforting rays of the sun can make a person more susceptible to skin cancer. That is why you should put sunscreen on at least 50 SPF before going out. If you want to check your skin at home, you can do that as well. But, there are a few things you need to know. You should stand in front of the mirror and examine every part of your body. You can also ask someone to help you in examining your back. You have to look for warning signs that such as “ABCDE” signs.

A stands for asymmetrical shape, B is for irregular borders, C is for abnormal colors, D is for diameter, and is for evolving. In case if the mole is larger than a pencil in diameter, or has a weird color, is not an even circle, or changes the appearance over time, then you should head over to a dermatologist quickly.

These are a few things you can do at home to check your health. It is essential to check your health regularly because you can catch any strange developments early on. You should also invest in some equipment such as thermometers and blood pressure monitors. This is one simple way through which you can keep an eye on your health. Therefore, act carefully.
